FOR NOVEMBER “HAUX WITH STRINGS” PERFORMANCE

 

 

Haux has today unveiled a brand new stand alone single, ‘Cologne’. From the whispered vocals of the opening phrase an echoing melody delicately builds, powered along by rhythmic piano and gently rolling percussion.

Haux is the smoky-eyed silhouette of photographer-turned-musician Woodson Black. His 2016 debut EP All We’ve Known was an individualistic experiment in multi-media expression that has gathered 50M streams throughout the world. Over the course of a year, Woodson carefully curated each step of the way – producing each song, photo, video and design from his quiet home in the Berkshires.

When it came time to tour, Woodson had never performed live or even played with other musicians. The first time he heard his voice through a microphone was at Haux’s first showcase in New York where he was sick with nerves backstage. The next performance was to a packed and silenced theatre at a festival in Germany. By the eighth show in February 2017, Haux headlined a sold out church in London, and went on to tour six different countries during the spring, including a stop in Cologne.

Speaking of the new release, Woodson himself explains: “I’ve realised there are so many places I haven’t seen in the world, so many faces that seem so familiar and yet somehow so far away. I try to imagine their lives and how they differ from my own. I know I’ll never really know, but there’s something about not knowing that gives me comfort and keeps me eager to see more people and places.

“There was a certain magic about Cologne. It struck me as a place that I might’ve had another life in if I hadn’t lived the life I have. When I was back home, off tour, I remembered that feeling and tried to imagine a life there and the story of what might have been”.

After a triumphant debut at The Great Escape festival as well as a run of headline shows around the UK earlier this year, Haux will return to London for a very special one-off show at the iconic Hoxton Hall in November where he’ll be accompanied by a string section. The show will be his last UK date of 2017 and promises to be a unique event. Tickets are onsale now (here) and full international tour dates for Haux are listed below.

The recently released ‘Touch’ showcased Haux’s ability to deliver something that on first hear could be described as stripped back but simultaneously feels very cinematic. The track went on to garner acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic for its “dreamy songwriting with a sting in the tail” (Clash), for being “like a moment of comfort in the eye of an icy hurricane” (The Line of Best Fit), and “absorbing” (New York Times).
