Zoo with a view
With their pool perched on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, the penguins enjoy the very best view in the Zoo every evening as the sun goes down.
And for one night only, the 40-strong colony will be joined by throngs of people who will be able to share the spectacular sunset at the Zoo’s Big Night Out event on Saturday (29 June).
Zookeeper Jamie Graham said: “While most penguins spend their days snacking on sardines and paddling in the pool, our penguins enjoy something a little different – a stunning sunset.
“Watching the sun go down behind the hills is a truly memorising sight which the penguins normally have all to themselves, so we’re really excited visitors will be able to share this special moment with our birds at the Big Night Out.”
Thousands of people are set to enjoy a packed schedule of keeper talks and demonstrations, carnival bands, acrobats and Zulu drummers, as the Zoo opens its doors after hours for one night only.
