The Drifters offer local children the opportunity of a lifetime

One of the biggest selling groups of all time, The Drifters are offering local primary

schools across the country a once in a lifetime opportunity on their forthcoming UK

tour – the chance for their choir to perform with them live on stage!

Now in their 59th year, The Drifters have seen massive chart success on both sides of the Atlantic and
across the world, with over 114 million album sales and 214 million singles sales and a vast catalogue of
hits, many of which are on the album including ‘Under The Boardwalk’, ‘Like Sister and Brother’, ‘Saturday
Night At The Movies,’ ‘Save The Last Dance For Me,’ ‘On Broadway’ and ‘Kissin in The Back Row’.

The latest release by the group ‘Up On The Roof’ has now gone gold, reaching #12 in the UK charts and
remaining in the charts for 14 weeks, demonstrating the group’s timeless appeal.

The group is offering 30 Primary Schools in the UK the opportunity to perform one song on stage with
the group at selected dates on their forthcoming 70 date ‘Masquerade Tour’ which is coming to the New
Theatre in Oxford on July 7th 2012.

The response from the theatres and the primary schools that have already confirmed their involvement has
been amazing, with the primary schools jumping at the chance to be part of a world class production and
appearing on stage with such an iconic group.

Approximately 20 children from each school choir, up to the age of 11 will perform the song ‘’Stand By Me’
and will also join the group on stage for the finale with ‘Saturday Night At The Movies’.

Current line up member Michael Williams says. “We are very much looking forward to working with the

school children. We have worked closely with schools in the past in the US and the UK as part of PMG’s
musical education programme that we are very proud to be part of. We are currently visiting the schools
and meeting with the schoolchildren across the country to rehearse the song and we have been completely
overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and excitement of the children – it is a very special project to be involved
in.”

Managing Director of PMG, Kathy Mashadi says: “In a time where reality television, particularly

programmes such as X Factor, often gives children a false impression of life in performance, this
programme aims to give children a more accurate overview of what happens in the music industry –
from what is involved in preparing for a performance through to the actual show itself, giving them a real
opportunity to perform as part of a world class production. It is an experience they never forget.”
