2012 NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR
*HOW WILL X-FACTOR & BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT NEW LINE UP BE JUDGED BY VIEWERS?*
*ITV’S NEW CHAT SHOW HOST, JONATHAN ROSS, UP AGAINST BBC’S GRAHAM NORTON*
*TOWIE, MADE IN CHELSEA AND CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER BATTLE IT OUT AS REALITY TV SHOW OBSESSION CONTINUES*
The National Television Awards, now in its 17th year, has today revealed the nominees for TV’s biggest night of the year! With voting officially opening today, the country is set to vote in their millions to choose their most popular shows and favourite TV stars. The NTA trophy is the ultimate prize for any show or star – it’s the award that says the public love what you are doing!
Amongst the fourteen fiercely-contested awards is Most Popular Talk Show.
Jonathan Ross is back having switched to ITV, and is up against the man who took over his BBC slot, Graham Norton, . But Alan Carr, Piers Morgan, Paul O’Grady, Rob Brydon, Alan Titchmarsh, present tough competition and confirm this genre is in rude health and well deserving of its own category this year.
The star-studded ceremony will be hosted by Dermot O’Leary, who may well find himself running across the stage to the winner’s podium. He’s made the cut in the Entertainment Presenter category for his role at the helm of X Factor. Standing in his way are the Tyneside twosome Ant and Dec. The boys have had a busy year so far, and four of their shows are in contention including their headline-grabbing and controversial latest show Red or Black?
One of the most eagerly-awaited categories is certain to be Reality, where The Only Way Is Essex and Made in Chelsea make an appearance for the first time. The new look Celebrity Big Brother could also be on course to pick up some silverware, along with hugely successful TV hits such as I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, The Apprentice, and Come Dine With Me .
TV viewers have gone dance crazy with no fewer than five dance shows in the Talent nominations. Leading the procession is Strictly Come Dancing, but Dancing on Ice, Got to Dance, Let’s Dance for Comic Relief and So You Think You Can Dance could all step on their toes. But will the show that dominated this category last year the X Factor still come out on top with two of its stars Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole missing? And how will Britain’s Got Talent and its new line-up be judged by viewers?
In the hugely-varied Factual category popular Royal Navy Caribbean Patrol is up for honours alongside other weighty contenders such as Billy Connolly’s Route 66, Who Do You Think You Are? MasterChef, The Great British Bake-off and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
The National Television Awards will take place at London’s 02 Arena in January, broadcast on ITV1.
As always, what sets the National Television Awards apart from any other TV awards show, is that all the winners are chosen by the YOU, the viewer.
