8 stages – 3 days and nights of fun in the fields in the beautiful Lake District
The countdown is on until the Lake District’s almighty, sold out Kendal Calling festival. With just two weeks to go the team are sprinkling their magic on the beautiful event site and have some last minute news and additions to reveal.
Electropop act Fenech Soler will headline the Calling Out stage on Sunday 31st July, closing this year’s irrepressible festival with their vibrant sound. Also on Sunday; ‘Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe’ will play host to the world’s largest Kendal Mintcake. Mixed and baked over the weekend, the mighty mintcake will be on display crowning Kendal Calling as “record breakers’ and setters as no-one has attempted this before!
This feat of sugar craft, measuring 4m in length and nearly 3/4m thick, has been specially created for Kendal Calling by Wilsons confectioners using the exact same methods as 100 years ago, stirring sugar by hand in copper pans to get that magic taste. Immersed and supportive of local culture, Kendal Calling are delighted to be attempting to gain a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for baking the largest mintcake; a historical world and festival first!
With an intimate yet expansive site, Kendal Calling will play host to globally accomplished acts like Blondie, Chase & Status and The Cribs on the main stage set in a stunning natural amphitheatre. Away from the big crowds, nestled in the many nooks of the site are fantastic stages that are worth seeking out! These include the much talked about and intimate Riot Jazz stage featuring the sounds of the Riot Jazz Brass Band and Skamel from Fat Freddy’s Drop to name just some talent.
Probably the best Rock n Roll band around today; Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will be rocking the Get it Loud in Libraries stage; while the Kayleid Stage serves as a platform for world, folk, funk and everything in between with acts including Mr Scruff, hoe down kings Cut A Shine and many more.
Kendal Calling also plays host to the first neo rave Balkan Gypsy band (that we know of!); called Slamboree – look out for their face painted posse gracing stages across the weekend!
This year’s fancy dress theme is Beasts and Machines as we encourage revelers to unless their futuristic wild animals within! With areas including the Main Stage, Glow Dance Tent, Kayleid Tent, Calling Out stage, Monstrous Garden, The Soapbox, Riot Jazz, The Houseparty, Happy Slap Boutique, Get it Loud in Libraries, Kids Area, The Ladybird Project, Garden of Eden, The Village Green and Songsmith Solar Stage there is a whole new world to get immersed in.
On top of round the clock entertainment, Kendal Calling is the only festival to host a real ale festival; Kendale, which is based in our onsite pub The Holy Quail!
The Kendal Calling team can’t wait to see you in the fields, not long now
